Heaven was homeless for nearly five years, as a result of an 11-year drug addiction. She was eventually sentenced to community corrections – and during her time at that facility, she first learned about the Women’s Bean Project.
The organization has helped her regain her confidence, and also build the skills needed to enter the workforce. Perhaps most of all, though, the Women’s Bean Project has given Heaven goals – milestones that she wants to hit, and now has the ability to do so:
“I want to make a difference in the lives of troubled youth. Being proud of myself is also a new feeling for me. Even with all the trauma that I have suffered in my life I am able to maintain an optimistic personality and have a great sense of humor and that makes me proud.”
Heaven is only one of many women whose lives have been changed for the better by the Women’s Bean.
