Valentine’s Day is now less than a week away. For some, this may be cause for celebration; for others, the looming date may bring with it a feeling of annoyance or even anxiety.

Whether you’re currently coupled up or single, it’s important to remember what Valentine’s Day is all about: Love. There are so many different kinds of love in the world, and they are all worth cherishing and celebrating. However, the most important kind of love of all might just be the kind of love that you have for yourself.

We all know the cliché, “you have to love yourself before someone else can love you.” But really, whether or not you are looking for someone else to love you, the take-away here should be that you have to love yourself. Period.

So this Valentine’s Day, don’t forget to share the love – not just with those around you, but also with yourself. Not sure how to do that? Here are some ideas, just to help get you started:

Pamper yourself.
Too many of us feel unnatural (or even guilty!) setting time aside to pamper and nurture ourselves. But Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to do just that, what with all the special packages and discounts being offered by spas and salons. Sure, many of them are being marketed towards men with the message being that they should buy them for their significant others – but really, why shouldn’t we ladies take advantage of the deals ourselves? Buy yourself a gift certificate for a facial, manicure/pedicure, full-body massage – whatever will make you feel pampered and cared for this Valentine’s Day! If you don’t have the time or money to spend on this, you can at least treat yourself to a relaxing bubble bath or mini facial at home. Over at, we’ve got plenty of products to make your own bathroom feel like a world-class spa.

Indulge yourself.
Nothing says Valentine’s Day quite like chocolate! Consider picking up a box of truffles or cupcakes from your favorite bakery; oftentimes, these specialty shops will offer limited-time flavors and packages this time of year.

If you’re the Domestic Goddess type, you could instead whip something up – to share with your loved ones, or keep for yourself!

Let these mouth-watering recipes serve as inspiration:

Buy yourself something pretty.
Don’t you just love receiving flowers? Well, here’s a secret… They’re just as beautiful when you buy them for yourself! Same goes for jewelry and keepsakes… However, this Valentine’s Day, you might want to treat yourself to a gift that someone else would not think to get you. Maybe you’ve been secretly eyeing a new pair of shoes, or a purse, or a piece of furniture. Now’s the perfect time to spring for that special something – just to celebrate the love that you have for yourself!
