With a brand-new season come brand-new style trends. This spring promises lighter layers, brighter colors – and an array of fun and feminine fashion accessories. If you’re looking for a way to take part without spending a lot of money, you may consider the DIY approach. This is a great way to try out new style accessories to see what you wind up liking – without having to worry about wasting a bunch of hard-earned cash on the things that you don’t. Plus, it’s fun!

Here are some DIY accessory projects that have us looking forward to spring:

Embellished Sunglasses
before and after sunglasses-1We’ve mentioned before that statement shades are sure to be huge this spring – but who wants to splurge on something that may only be “in” for a season or two? Not the ever-fashionable Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere, who offers a fantastic tutorial for DIY embellished sunglasses on her blog. As you can see in her step-by-step photos, she opted to adorn her shades with plastic flowers, pearls and rhinestones. However, we can think of some other things – ribbons, sequins, unique vintage finds – that could be equally adorable. Don’t be afraid to experiment and get creative!

Celtic Knot Necklace
IMG_1913Warmer weather inevitably brings daydreams of days spent by the sea. So it is only natural that spring and summer fashion trends tend to include nautical elements. If you love the look of clean-cut, all-American style, then you will love having this Celtic knot necklace to throw over your T-shirt or camisole. Follow the instructions available at Momma Go Round (complete with a helpful video!) and you’ll wind up with your own personal, one-of-a-kind accessory.

Pom Pom Necklace

The instructions are surprisingly easy to follow and master, and the results are truly beautiful.

Embellished Sandals
Got enough necklaces? Well, then how about some new embellishments for your feet? Hotter temps call for polished pedicures – and the right footwear to show them off! On this TODAY Show segment, Style Contributor Bobbi Thomas offers her tips for fancy-ing up your springtime sandals: “Flip your flops with embellishments from old earrings or broken necklaces. Inexpensive charm bracelets can add a little glamour to some strappy stilettos, or you can try tying tulle to your t-straps.”

Updated Friendship Bracelets
diy-embellished-friendship-bracelets-1A timeless accessory that manages to be both nostalgic and fashion-forward is the updated friendship bracelet. Examples and variations are all over Pinterest these days. In particular, we’re loving these upscale pieces embellished with chains, studs and rhinestones. They’re great worn on their own or stacked for chic springtime style. You could even make extras for your BFF – or to keep for yourself. See the DIY instructions over at Honestly… WTF to get started.
