What’s a summer barbecue without baked beans, right?
While this recipe for Calico Baked Beans was originally posted on the Women’s Bean Project’s blog for the 4th of July, we think that it would make a great side dish at any time of year! It comes from the Bean Project’s Recipe for Success Cookbook, and the base is Toni’s 10 Bean Soup. However, as the recipe states, you can easily substitute other varieties of dry beans – but try to keep the color contrast for a prettier dish.

Also, in case you missed it on our Facebook page yesterday, here’s another recipe from the Bean Kitchen: Uncle Bob’s Easy Pulled Pork Sandwiches with Lite Slaw (which we think would go really well with the Calico Baked Beans!)
By purchasing products like Toni’s 10 Bean Soup and Uncle Bob’s BBQ Rub, you are helping the Women’s Bean Project “help women help themselves.” The organization empowers chronically unemployed and/or homeless women by giving them the tools and confidence they need to enter the workplace and become stable, self-sufficient and proud members of society. We are so pleased and honored to be partnering with the Women’s Bean Project to offer a special promotion in honor of National Women’s Equality Day – which takes place this Monday, August 26th. Here at MyChelle we believe that beauty is not merely skin deep, but self deep. The Women’s Bean Project is doing so much to uncover the truly beautiful selves of women who have not yet been able to rise to their real potential – and for that, we salute and celebrate them. Stay tuned as we officially announce our collaborative promotion on Hello Beautiful, Facebook, Twitter, and MyChelle.com!
