We’ll admit, winter is not typically the most exciting season for fashion – mainly because, in many parts of the country, we are forced to hide every outfit beneath a big, bulky coat. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t have some fun with your winter wardrobe this year! Here are some great cold-weather style tips from some of our favorite bloggers, sure to make you more inclined to step outside – even when cold temps would have you stay indoors all day:

First of all, why not make a statement with a brightly colored coat? We’re huge fans of the pink one pictured (courtesy of LaurenConrad.com) but we’ve also seen fantastic styles in many colors of the rainbow. Emerald green, cobalt blue and classic red are especially popular – and surprisingly versatile; then there’s “radiant orchid,” Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year. This winter, choose a bold color that complements your style and skin tone – and you may be surprised at how many times you find yourself reaching for it over your more subdued beige and black coats.

Not ready to make such a big, bold investment? Don’t worry – you can still find ways to incorporate splashes of color into your otherwise neutral winter look! Opt for accessories (hats, scarves, shoes, handbags…) in brilliant hues to amp up your cold-weather palette. While small, these pops of color can go a long way – and they’re easy to swap out, as your taste and the weather change from day to day (or even hour to hour!)

Speaking of accessories… Have you noticed that collars are having a huge moment right now? We love the way they instantly transform a basic outfit into something elegant and ladylike. A more festive alternative to the button-down shirt is the embellished collar necklace, which manages to make a statement while also blending seamlessly into the rest of your ensemble. They’re appropriate for either the office or a holiday party, and they’re the perfect piece of jewelry for wintertime because they’re meant to be worn over a crew neck sweater or blouse (rather than something low-cut.)

Of course, scarves are always a major must-have in the winter. And this year, they’re bigger and bolder than ever. Statement scarves have the power to transform even the plainest outfit into something extraordinary (just ask Olivia Palermo, as featured on Babblings of a Mommy!) Chunky knits, faux fur, unique embellishments, unexpected color combinations – they’re all good here. Just think of your scarf as a replacement for jewelry – and don’t be afraid to experiment!

Lastly, this winter, try incorporating something metallic into your look. The trend lends itself beautifully to the season, as we’re all about layering different textures and fabrics during the coldest months. We think the tailored paints pictured here are just fabulous, but you don’t have to go that big to embrace the trend. Scarves, handbags, shoes, and nail polish in metallic hues are all fantastic finishing touches during the festive holiday season.

What are you most excited to wear during the winter? Do you have any favorite pieces or trends to share?
