It’s the start of wildflower season and everywhere you look there’s a colorful reminder that summer is on its way. Flowers have been used for centuries as decoration and adornment, but did you know there are skin-benefiting powers hidden in their pretty petals, buds, stems, and oils? Some of the most ancient civilizations—from the Egyptians to the Greeks, Romans, and Chinese—knew that flowers had potential beyond their natural beauty. These eye-catching botanicals were used as natural remedies for a variety of common ailments. Cleopatra was even said to bathe in rose water for its beautifying properties!
At the root of all MyChelle products are powerful, ethically-sourced botanical ingredients. We substitute common synthetic ingredients with clean floral and plant extracts loaded with vitamins and antioxidants that help address multiple skin concerns. These gentle yet potent ingredients serve to influence the health and vibrancy of your skin. Read on for Power Flowers that help keep your skin fresh as a daisy (or honeysuckle, rose, lotus…you get the idea)!
Bellis Perennis (Daisy) Flower Extract
There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to the seemingly simple daisy! Its brightening extract helps to reduce the appearance and prevent the formation of dark/brown spots and is perfect for oily and blemished skin due to its high content of alpha hydroxy acids, tannins, and flavonoids.
Nelumbo Nucifera (Lotus) Flower Extract
The Sacred Lotus flower holds symbolic status in Buddhism and Hinduism and is represented in much of the iconography as a symbol of perfection. It’s no surprise that its extract has perfecting properties, too! The multi-purpose extract from this powerful botanical has conditioning and rejuvenating benefits.
Rosa Centifolia (Rose) Flower Water
Always try to stop and smell the roses, but if you can’t, rose water in your skin care will do! Distilled from rose petals, rose water contains all of the plant’s water-soluble components including a low level of the essential oil. It helps in reducing the appearance of redness from irritated, over-heated, or over-sensitized skin.
Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Oil
We often utilize multiple, beneficial parts of botanicals, and the rose is one of them. Rose flower essential oil helps to regenerate the skin and helps to repair photo damage. Rich in Vitamins A, C, and E, it is excellent for any skin type.
Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract
Also known as Japanese Honeysuckle, the flower extract helps to accelerate the removal of toxins and waste materials to promote vibrant skin. It’s also rich in ochnaflavones that give this extract anti-fungal properties.
Cereus Grandiflorus (Cactus) Flower Extract
Cactus flowers rarely bloom, but when they do, they add pops of gorgeous color and texture to the desert. Cactus flower extract helps to soothe irritation, hydrate, and re-mineralize the skin. High in antioxidants to help protect skin from free radical damage.
Roses are red, violets are blue, flowers are pretty, and powerful too! While not all of us at MyChelle have a green thumb, we all strive to create the cleanest, greenest skin care available. Because we abide by strict labeling standards, you’ll always know the exact part of the plant our ingredients come from and we often use extracts from the flower, fruit, stem, and seeds of the same plant!
