1.    “You can’t get sun damage on cloudy or rainy day.”

Liar, liar, face on fire (or it will be if you don’t apply sunscreen). The truth is, we need sun protection 365 days a year as the sun is the number one cause of aging the skin, from hyperpigmentation to wrinkles. Our skin is susceptible to the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays regardless of the weather; during the dead heat of summer through snowy winter blizzards, we should all be protecting our skin from the sun’s rays every day.

Exposure to the sun and repeated sunburns accelerates the aging process of the skin, making you look as if you are older than you are. Skin variations caused by the sun are called hyperpigmentation or photo-aging with symptoms including:

•           Loss of elasticity

•           Dry, dehydrated, rough skin

•           Wrinkles and fine lines

•           Broken capillaries

•           Freckling on your face, chest, shoulders and hands

•           Large brown lesions

To repair dull or damaged skin, try the award-winning Apple Brightening Serum with an advanced formula that combines clinically proven ingredients to rapidly diminish the appearance of discoloration and sun damage (photo-aging). Revolutionary PhytoCellTec™ Apple Stem Cells trigger skin’s natural regenerative process while reducing line depth up to 15% in just 4 weeks. Breakthrough Peptide Melanostatine®5 interrupts the reaction that causes hyperpigmentation to deliver a 33% improvement in skin’s tone and clarity. To avoid future sun damage, try MyChelle’s Daily Defense Cream SPF 17, wear a summery wide- brimmed hat, long sleeved UV protected clothing and choose shaded areas when outside.

2.    “It’s ok to just wash your face with a regular bar of soap.”

Bar soaps tend to be cheaper than face washes and since they are already in the shower soaping up your skin, they are convenient to use on your face. Looking at the “pro vs con” list on this topic, I must say the cons far outweigh the good. The problem with using bar soap on your face is they are often formulated with a higher pH making them alkaline. Our skin naturally tends to have a lower pH and is a touch acidic. The alkaline atmosphere can cause acne-producing bacteria (making breakouts worse) while stripping the skin’s natural barrier causing moisture to escape, leaving the skin dry and inflamed. Bar soaps can be irritating for all skin types, and besides, do you really want to wash your face with the same bar of soap you use to wash your feet?

If you must wash with bar soap, look for something formulated specifically for the face; otherwise find your skin’s perfect cleansing match with MyChelle.  Our cleansers go above and beyond with pore-refining essential oils, exfoliating fruit acids, natural skin brighteners and protective antioxidants. Plus, we have a rather impressive variety of unique cleansers—so you can find the perfect fit for your pretty face. This time of year fans love the Apple Brightening Cleanser to help brightening and smooth their complexions, a perfect post-summer reparative cleanser.

3.    “The fastest way to heal from a pimple is to pop it.”

Keep your dirty hands off your skin and stop picking. No really, stop picking at your face. All that fingernail-to-face contact is just embedding your skin with dirt, debris and other filthy stuff you don’t even want to know about. Not to mention the nice red blotches left behind after you’ve done your damage. Popping pimples can cause immediate irritation and inflammation but can also cause long term damage and permanent scarring.

Next time, instead of manhandling your pimples, use our Clear Skin Spot Treatment to clear things up without all the violence. This ultra-clearing and calming spot treatment counterbalances oil and other problems associated with blemish-prone skin. Sulphur purifies, unclogs pores, and dries excess oil while Zinc aids repair and speeds skin’s recovery. Totarol™ purifies deeply to reduce and avert blemish-prone disturbances, helping skin stay in a healthy, balanced state. Tip: Apply on a blemish and cover with a warm, wet cotton ball to pull out impurities.
