If you battle oily skin daily, you are not alone. Shiny, greasy and oily are all words used by many people to describe the appearance of their skin, and let’s face it, trying to get your skin under control can be a total pain. Don’t worry, there are things that can help balance your complexion and give you the right kind of glow.

Oily skin is caused by overactive sebaceous glands, which produce an excess of oil (or sebum as it’s called in the skin care world). This problem can be heredity or hormonal and is often characterized by serious dehydration due to harsh skin care products and the lack of proper moisture. Often times oily skin is more prone to breakouts and can be classified by a variety of things, whether you are a teen suffering with consistent breakouts or an adult dealing with sporadic, pesky blemishes.

With blemish-prone skin, inflammation and redness can easily appear while pores and congestion within the skin is noticeable. The breakouts can result from a variety of things including, hormones, an over-production of oil, environmental aggressors and comedogenic (pore clogging) skin care products.

In order to get your skin into a healthy state, avoid using harsh, drying products; this will just cause irritation and inflammation. Don’t eliminate crucial steps in your routine like moisturizing. Your skin needs topical hydration support and when you forego moisturizer, the skin can ultimately produce more oil, exacerbating the whole situation.

The biggest step towards taking control of your skin is identifying the issues. Take a moment and look in the mirror. Well, beautiful, what do you see?
