I’ve heard that coconut is great for the skin. Do any MyChelle products contain coconut? How is it used in products, and what does it do?

You heard right!

An essential yet affordable beauty staple everyone should have on-hand is organic, unrefined coconut oil. Yep, that’s right – the stuff you can cook with! The ingredient name is Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Coconut) and it increases the skin’s permeability to encourage thorough penetration of active ingredients, enhances lipid barrier function, and improves spreadability of overall formulations. Coconut oil can help return moisture to the skin, and even reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles when used regularly. The nutrients contained in coconut oil will nourish and heal the skin – yet coconut oil is inexpensive and doesn’t contain toxic chemicals or harsh ingredients.

102_TSS_1.2_TubeCoconut oil can be used on your body and even hair; it makes an excellent conditioner or hair mask/treatment. You can use it as a leave-in hair treatment by applying a teaspoon or more of coconut oil to your ends. For a deeper treatment, emulsify and rub a tablespoon or more of coconut oil onto your scalp and gently work through to the ends. Put a shower cap on to prevent transfer onto bed linens, and leave on overnight. Wake up, rinse and shampoo – and be amazed by your shiny, healthy locks.

Here at MyChelle, we use coconut as an eco-friendly broad-spectrum preservative with bactericidal actions, as well as for its hydrating benefits. You will find this awesome ingredient in the Apple Brightening Cleanser, Fabulous Eye Cream, Fruit Enzyme Cleanser, Fruit Enzyme Scrub, Hydrating Cactus Mask, Pumpkin Renew Cream, Revitalizing Night Cream, and Supreme Polypeptide Cream – to name just a few!

One of my favorite products loaded with coconut (it’s even the first ingredient in the formula) is the Tropical Skin Smoother. It exfoliates and retextures the skin for a youthfully soft and vibrant complexion. Ultra-fine Bamboo Stem Powder and 1.6% Lactic Acid release and dissolve dead cell build up to give dry skin a brighter appearance. The product is rich in vitamins and minerals, and its exfoliation properties also help ingredients deeply penetrate into the skin. Rich coconut pulp and oil moisturize and hydrate, so your skin is left feeling instantly softer and smoother – and looking radiant! Use 2-3 times per week for a wonderful and invigorating treatment.

75_SS_SPF28Coconut_2.3_TubeFor a daily dose of coconut, incorporate the Coconut Sun Shield SPF 28 into your routine. Titanium Dioxide and clear Zinc Oxide offer clean, broad-spectrum defense that helps prevent the signs of aging – and research has even shown that Zinc Oxide can shield against ultraviolet rays. What’s more, this product has soothing Aloe to ease signs of redness and irritation before they have a chance to occur, and restorative algaes reduce sun-induced inflammation while replenishing oils hydrate and relieve your skin. Oh, and did I mention that it smells like coconut deliciousness?

Coconut is good for you topically and internally – so eat it, drink it, slather it on your skin, and enjoy all of the benefits coconut has to offer.
